South Asian Journal of Social Sciences (SAJSS)

Welcome to the SAJSS website. This website will help us connect as members of the social scientific community in the South Asian region. SAJSS’s website provides a platform for growing online discussion and networking opportunities for the scholars of South Asia spread all over the world. SAJSS is tasked to promoting sociology and related social sciences (….) in South Asia We hope this effort will create a knowledge base that will facilitate, teaching and research of social sciences, and enhance the professional development of social sciences. In this platform issues related to social solidarity, cooperation and peaceful social change in the region would receive public attention. We hope our endeavor will promote what C. Wright Mills called “sociological imagination” that is not limited to the discipline of sociology. We will seek to promote interdisciplinary research and intellectual collaboration and exchanges among scholars – especially, young scholars – in the South Asian region. We hope SAJSS will be able to promote public conversations about critical social issues affecting the region.

South Asian social scientists work across various areas of specialization in the discipline and actively engage in, and in some cases lead, international debates in Social Sciences. We currently have a critical mass of social scientists active in 23 thematic groups in key specializations within our discipline including health, gender and families and cultural sociology. Joining and participating in thematic groups is a key benefit of being a SAJSS member.

If you are not already a member of SAJSS, I invite you to join our vibrant community of social scientists. If you are a member, I urge you to promote the benefits of memberships to your colleagues!

SAJSS is a ‘collective member’ of the International Sociological Association (ISA). In September 2010, ISA published the first issue of Global Dialogue.
Web pages on SAJSS’s History were added to SAJSS web in 2015. The SAJSS History content will need to be continually updated and corrected as new materials come to hand. There are many areas where our historical records are sketchy, and our collective memories a little vague. If readers have information to assist with updating or correcting the SAJSS History content, please email our SAJSS Office. We welcome your comments and suggestions.
